"Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high. Who humbleth himself to behold
the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! He maketh the barren woman to keep house,
and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord." - Psalm 113:5,6,9

A Fun Day Together

I was blessed this morning with a phone call from my husband. He told me he'd be home in half an hour and wanted to take a day trip with me. I quickly got Malachi and myself ready. We went out of town to a flea market, some thrift stores, and a restaurant. Although we didn't find anything really exciting to purchase, we really enjoyed our day together. I thank the Lord for my husband and my sweet baby boy. Sometimes I just feel overwhelmed with emotion knowing that God has blessed me so greatly. The "little things" in life mean the most.

Bible Conference Reflections

This week we have had Bro. J.D. Herchenhahn preach at our church's annual Bible Conference. His messages have been such a blessing to me. I love to hear a preacher who has been in the ministry a long time share his heart. I appreciate his genuine love for the Lord and others and the intensity with which he preaches and carries himself. Being around him and his wife increases my desire to grow in the Lord and reach the lost.
Last night he talked about how desiring God's will is a birthmark of a believer. We ought to pray about everything. When Isaiah approached God, he saw Him "high and lifted up" and "holy" (Isaiah 6:1,3). This affected the way he saw himself and others, saying, "Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips" (Isaiah 6:5). Consider Christ's first words: "I must be about my Father's business" (Luke 2:49). His last words were, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). The conclusion I came to from this message was that God's will for me as a Christian includes being a witness to others. This will come naturally once I spend time praying in God's presence because only after I have the right vision of God will I see my need for God and have a burden for others as well.

Treasures Found

I thought that I would post another picture of Malachi. This was taken at Mike's parents house a couple Sundays ago. He fell asleep in his Uncle Dave's arms at the dinner table, and we immediately scrambled for the camera to catch this cute face. He sure is a show stopper.
The last couple days have been so nice. Wednesday I spent the day at a friend's house. She helped me add some great things to my blog (Thanks Christina!). Then that night Mike preached a great message on Acts 17:11. Yesterday Mike had the day off so we spent the day together thrift shopping. We found some good books, an ironing board, a valance, and some other odds and ends. Lots of fun!
What struck me today as I was reading Acts 20 is Paul's love for the church at Ephesus. Oh, that I may show love for my brothers and sisters in Christ by praying for them and doing other things for them. Paul said, "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35, emphasis mine).

Christian Families

I'd just like to take a moment to say that I thank the Lord for Christian families that are serving the God together. What an encouragement it is to see good families following the Lord. Last night Mike, Malachi and I fellowshipped with a family from our church. How sweet it was! Pictured here is Mike having fun with Malachi. We look forward to raising a family together for God's glory.

Let It Snow

Mike, Malachi and I woke up at 3:00 this morning to 6 inches of snow! This is very significant for Jacksonville. In the 5 winters I've lived here, this is only the second time I've seen snow accumulate. As you can imagine, people who love snow around here are very excited. Mike said that last night at 11:00 someone drove down our road with their window open singing "Let It Snow". Tonight we are having Mike's brother Dave and some guys from Chick-fil-A over to play in the snow some more. I can't wait!

All the beautiful white covering everything reminds me of the fresh start God gives when we confess our sin to Him. "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;" - Isaiah 1:18a

More pictures to come!

Peace

I took this photo of Malachi last night. His pacifier was barely hanging out of his mouth, but I didn't get to him with the camera in time. Still a cute photo though!
Malachi and I went to the homeschooling activity at our church today. It was nice to fellowship with the other families. Mike is finally feeling better after the stomach bug he caught. Praise the Lord! I'm praying that I didn't catch it.
Here's a verse for today:
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:"Is. 26:3,4

From the Heart of a Housewife

This is my first post and, as is typical when I'm at the computer, Malachi is asleep on my lap all slumped over with a pacifier in his mouth. How sweet! I love being a mommy although it is a lot of work.

I hope that you will visit my blog often to see what is happening in our household and to keep in touch. Because Malachi is growing so fast, this will be a great way for you to keep up! Thanks, Mom, for encouraging me to start a blog. I think that it will be a lot of fun.

The passage that God has been using lately to speak to my heart is I Peter 2:2,3 - "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious." My, has God been gracious to me! My prayer is that I will also "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and for ever. Amen" (II Peter 3:18) .

At 2:30 this morning I finished Tender Mercy for a Mother's Soul by Angela Guffey (You can't guess why I would be up at that time of night, can you?). It's a book published by Focus on the Family that Mike found for me at a thrift store. Wow, it has been such a blessing! If you are a mommy, especially with children still at home, I encourage you to read this book. It really challenged me to walk more closely with my Lord.

Well, I have go. Malachi is hungry!
